With the objective of educating the society at large, Mahatma Gandhi University started various programs and courses at Meghalaya campus where the population is mainly tribal and uneducated. There are less no of universities set-up in this area as a result of which either students don't pursue higher education or migrate to other parts of the countries for higher studies.

MGU offers scholarship programs to educate under privileged section of the society.Successful Candidate under this scholarship program will be awarded waiver of 20% of course fee.
